Jesus purposely went out of his way to speak to a Samaritan woman, ignoring three social prohibitions of the day. He used well water to open the conversation, shrewdly and carefully steered the discussion to spiritual matters, gently revealed her sin nature and her need for a savior, and then declared to her that he – Jesus – was the promised Messiah, the savior. The Samaritan woman believed in Jesus and was saved, then immediately ran home to tell her friends and neighbors. Many Samaritans from the city went out to see Jesus and brought him and his disciples into their homes for two days to hear the truth directly from Jesus; many believed in Jesus and were saved, causing them to declare “this man really is the Savior of the world.” In this story, we see Jesus modeling for all of us his command to “go and make disciples of all nations”. | John 4:1-42
